THC or CBD?
Indica or Sativa?
THC VS. CBD
THC is the main psychoactive ingredient found in cannabis and it’s the compound responsible for signaling the brain to release dopamine, creating feelings of pleasure and reward.
The therapeutic potential of THC is extensive. Many consumers claim THC acts as an anti-inflammatory, relieves chronic pain, and works as a sleep aid, to name only a few.
CBD is a natural compound found in cannabis and is increasingly used as a treatment for a variety of conditions ranging from anxiety to depression to insomnia.
Much of CBD’s newfound popularity is due to its 100% non-psychoactive component, allowing consumers to reap a multitude of benefits from the plant without feeling “high”.
Indica vs. Sativa vs. Hybrid
The original thought behind distinguishing sativa from indica was to help growers identify each strain’s unique properties and specific growth cycles. The words “sativa” and “indica” are now arguably overused and most experts consider the terms to be outdated. Sativa strains are commonly referred to as uplifting or energizing while indica is known more for its deeply relaxing, body high properties. A hybrid strain, as you might have guessed, is in fact a blend of both sativa and indica. Many consider hybrids to be a balanced high that successfully compliments both sativa and indica.
Growers and budtenders alike both agree that categorizing is helpful but would encourage you to also consider terpene profiles, cannabinoid content, and terpene content during your buying process. Doing so will yield a more personalized selection and an overall more customized experience. As always, it’s important to take an individual approach to cannabis consumption.
